Saudi (Arab) Peace Initiative (2002)

Beirut, Lebanon
Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, Saudi Arabia: Author
A peace initiative proposed by Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah at the 2002 Arab League Summit in Beirut, Lebanon, and subsequently endorsed by that summit, as well as at the 2007 summit in Riyadh. The initiative calls for the resolution of the Arab-Israeli and Palestinian-Israeli conflicts and a normalization of relations between Israel and the Arab countries, in exchange for full Israeli withdrawal from the Golan Heights, West Bank (including East Jerusalem) and Gaza Strip, and resolution of the Palestinian refugee issue according to UN General Assembly Resolution 194. The initiative enjoys the support of the Palestinian Authority, but has been repeatedly rejected by Israel. The initiative was cited in the Geneva Initiative, a draft permanent status agreement to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict published in 2003 by an informal Israeli-Palestinian team.
